April 4 2009 launch report (4/9/2009)
On Saturday, April 4th, the annual AVHS "Invitational"
Launch was held at Apple Valley High School. The day was
overcast with a light breeze from the east.
AVHS TARC teams made a number of launches including some
successful qualification flights. There were also quite a few
sport launches by MASA members Ted Cochran, Alan Estenson, Scott
Gleason, Glen Overby, Dwayne Shmel, and David Whitaker. Ted
had a great flight of his Interceptor E on an E15. His Space
Shuttle, unfortunately, pranged when the parachute didn't emerge or
the orbiter separate.
The infamous AVHS trees didn't claim any victims this year, and
only one TARC rocket had to be retrieved from the branches.
Scott Gleason used up a good measure of karma when his Interceptor
came down in the only sizeable clearing in the woods.
Thanks also to everyone who helped carry out the range equipment!
