"Fat Boy" Duration
(adopted from the SARA rules by Alan Estenson)
1.0 General Rules
- The object of this event is to achieve the longest
combined flight duration.
- Two official flights are permitted. The total flight
duration for both flights is the score.
- Timing and other scoring rules are per the NAR "Pink
Book".
2.0 Stock "Fat Boy" Duration
- The model shall have the same length, diameter, fin shape
and number, and therefore overall appearance as a stock
"Fatboy".
- The model shall use the same nose cone as supplied by
Estes in the "Fat Boy" kit. Modifications may be
made that do not alter the shape of the nose cone forward of
the shoulder, beyond what would be incurred through normal
finishing (sanding, priming, and/or painting.)
- The model shall use commercial body tubing; no vellum,
fiberglass, or other material(s) may be substituted for the
airframe.
- Fin material is of the competitor's choice.
- There are no restrictions on internal modifications to the
model.
- Recovery system shall be at least one parachute of a size
and material of the competitor's choice.
- Propulsion shall be a "C" black powder
motor (e.g. C6-3, C6-5, C11-3, C11-5, etc) of any certified manufacture.
- Models shall be launched from a launch rod; no towers,
pistons, or rails permitted. Launch lug diameter is of the
competitor's choice. "Pop Lugs" are permitted.
3.0 Pro Stock "Fat Boy" Duration
- The model shall have the same length as a stock Fatboy.
- The model shall use the same nose cone as supplied by
Estes in the "Fat Boy" kit. Modifications may be
made that do not alter the shape of the nose cone forward of
the shoulder, beyond what would be incurred through normal
finishing (sanding, priming, and/or painting.)
- The model's airframe may be of any suitable material i.e.,
paper, plastic, vellum, fiberglass.
- Fin material and fin shape is of the competitor's choice.
- There are no restrictions on internal modifications to the
model.
- Recovery system shall be at least one parachute of a size
and material of the competitor's choice.
- Propulsion shall be any certified 18mm "C"
motor.
- Models may be launched from a launch rod, rail or tower.
Use of pistons is permitted.
4.0 Top Fuel Unlimited "Fat Boy" Duration
- The model shall use the same nose cone as supplied by
Estes in the "Fat Boy" kit. Modifications may be
made that do not alter the shape of the nose cone forward of
the shoulder, beyond what would be incurred through normal
finishing (sanding, priming, and/or painting.)
- The model's airframe may be of any suitable material i.e.,
paper, plastic, vellum, fiberglass.
- Fin material and fin shape is of the competitor's choice.
- There are no restrictions on internal modifications to the
model.
- Recovery system shall be at least one parachute of a size
and material of the competitor's choice.
- Propulsion shall be any certified motor or cluster of
motors. Combined total impulse of all motors not to
exceed 80 Newton-seconds.
- Models may not be multi-stage. All motors must be
ignited on the launch pad.
- Models may be launched from a launch rod, rail or tower.
Use of pistons is permitted.
